FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: in a flow of dry inert gas, cobaltous chloride is treated at a temperature of 600-700°C with clarification. Then hydrogen reduction of cleared cobaltous chloride is performed at a temperature of 600-720°C forming metallic cobalt and extracting hydrogen chloride directed to capture. As inert gas, nitrogen or argon may be used. Hydrogen chloride capture may be performed by its assign through water obtaining spirit of salt or through a water suspension containing cobalt hydroxide obtaining cobaltous chloride solutions.
EFFECT: improving the yield ratio of metallic cobalt from cobaltous chloride providing fine cleaning from volatile impurities, reducing the treatment duration.
