FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fuel cell catalysts, particularly to a catalyst for a fuel cell cathode, as well as to a method of preparing the said catalyst. The invention describes a catalyst for a fuel cell cathode which contains an alloy of palladium and a metal selected from cobalt, chromium, vanadium, silver, copper, gold, platinum or their mixture, on a carbon support. The catalyst is distinguished by that it also contains amorphised carbon in the following ratio of components in wt %: palladium 5.0-20.0; metal of mixture of metals 1.5-11.0; amorphised carbon 1.0-3.0; carbon support - the rest, with atomic ratio of metals in the alloy to metal or mixture of metals equal to (1.0-1.8):(0.55-1.0).Described also is a method of preparing the said catalyst for a fuel cell cathode, involving ultrasonic dispersion of a carbon support and at least one precursor of palladium and a metal selected from cobalt, chromium, vanadium, silver, copper, gold, platinum or their mixture in an organic solvent medium, extraction of the catalyst and its thermal treatment in an inert atmosphere at 700-900°C.

EFFECT: catalyst with high activity and which is resistant to corrosion when using proton-exchange polymer electrolytes in hydrogen-air fuel cells is obtained.
