SUBSTANCE: invention relates to control over elevators. At fault of the primary electric power supply of elevator system 10, automatic rescue run is effected with the help of standby power supply 46. Rescue run in elevator stopped between floors is initiated by release of brake 28 to displace elevator cabin 12 by gravity. In case elevator cabin 12 displaces due to misbalance between cabin 12 and counterweight 14, operation of motor 24 is timed with detected displacement of cabin 12 to generate electricity. In the case of balanced weight that elevator cabin does not displaces, standby electric power is fed to motor 24 to apply motive force to said cabin 12 in selected direction during said rescue run.
