SUBSTANCE: invention relates to elevators and is intended for lift operation in emergency mode. Lift (2) contains cabin (4), driving engine (10), driving unit (26). When lift (2) is operated in emergency mode power is fed from emergency power source (48), unit (26) is placed in emergency mode, characteristic of actual conditions of emergency operation is determined and driving unit (26) switching frequency is established depending on specified characteristic of actual conditions of emergency operation and in emergency mode, switching frequency is increased relative to normal frequency when cabin (4) moves under action of gravity.
EFFECT: smaller size of emergency power source.
