SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of video conferences, in particular, to generation of multi-window images of high definition. The method includes the following steps: calculation by a multiaddress control unit (MCU) for a format of a code stream of high definition video according to control information of a video conference and transmission of a set of capabilities comprising a format of a code stream of high definition video, to a selected terminal; coding of the high definition video image by the selected terminal on the basis of the format of the high definition video code stream specified in the set of capabilities, and transmission of a code stream of coded high definition video into the MCU unit; inclusion of the received image of the code stream of high definition video by the MCU unit into a multi-window image according to control information of the video conference, generation of the code stream of the multi-window video image of high definition video image and its transmission into terminals that participate in the conference.

EFFECT: generation of multi-window images of high definition in a multi-point video conference without necessity of considerable improvement of video signal codec capabilities.
