FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of obtaining 2,4,5,7-tetranitroxanthone, which can be applied in creation of thermally stable ammunition and equipment for carrying out geophysical works in wells with high exploitation temperature, as well as component of thermally stable explosive compositions. Method consists in nitration of xanthone with mixture of nitric and sulfuric acids, with nitration being carried out in one step without separation of intermediate products by interaction of xanthone with concentrated nitric acid (d 1.51 g/cm3) at 80÷83°C for an hour. After that 104% oleum (18÷20% SO3) is dosed into reaction mass until temperature of nitration reaction 110°C is reached, three-hour exposure is carried out at 108÷110°C and 2,4,5,7-tetranitroxanthone is separated.
EFFECT: claimed method makes it possible to increase output and improve purity of 2,4,5,7-tetranitroxanthone.
