FIELD: physics, computer engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to image processing and particularly to frame preanalysis on a display before capturing a document and monitoring image formation using a camera of a portable electronic device. The method comprises: selecting a frame in a viewfinder from a video stream for subsequent analysis thereof; selecting at least one search area in the selected frame, processing the selected frame in at least one of the search areas; determining at least one document; verifying reliability criteria of at least one detected document; analysing the detected document for the degree of distortion with subsequent selection of a frame with minimum degree of distortion of detected documents for further processing; verifying at least one document detected in the viewfinder for conformity with predefined geometric proportions; and automatic capture of the current analysed frame if the geometric proportions of the detected document correspond to predefined proportions.

EFFECT: simple and automatic process of acquiring images containing text using electronic devices, when a document with given settings is detected by a viewfinder of a camera without the need for manual adjustment of the device and location of the object for capturing, sorting files manually and involvement of the user.
