SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method, apparatus and system for determining the author of a painting. The method of determining the author of a painting includes converting the analysed canvas or fragments thereof with a digitisation device into at least one set of data; analysing the set(s) of data and determining characteristic features or details of characteristic features using a Hough method, wherein the determined characteristic features are stored in one set of data; determining reference features of at least one characteristic feature or details of characteristic features contained in the set of data, wherein the reference features of the characteristic features are either already stored in a database or are generated during the current process, wherein the database contains an additional associated record for each of said stored characteristic features; features that were recognised in this manner or analysed are compared with the characteristic features stored in the database, and if one or more matches are found, the surname of the author and/or the associated set of data with information about the author is output.
EFFECT: high reliability and flexibility of determining the author of a painting.
