SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of establishing the authorship of a painting. A method for determining the creator of a painting is disclosed, including: a) providing a collection of several original paintings by a certain artist and making at least one digital copy of each original painting from a collection of several original paintings, b) registration of classification data for each of the digital copies of each original painting in the collection, with the classification data being a set of reference classification data for the artist's original paintings, c) securing another painting and making at least one digital copy of the other painting, d) registration of other classification data for a digital copy of another painting and e) comparison of other classification data with a set of reference data of classification data for authentic paintings, and when the minimum match between other classification data and a set of reference data is reached or exceeded, a conclusion is made about the original painting of the artist, and otherwise-about a fake, and the registration of classification data and other classification data is carried out using the WND-CHARM method, while for homogeneous fractions of the corresponding digital copy or the corresponding fragment, the classification data is not registered, moreover, the homogeneous fraction of the digital copy is recorded using a histogram of color tones or gray level due to the fact that the maximum number of color tones or gray levels is set, which in the histogram have a certain minimum repetition rate, and a conclusion is made about the homogeneous fraction if the number of color tones or levels of gray that have a minimum repetition rate less than the maximum number, moreover, the corresponding digital copy is divided according to the first modular grid of fragments adjoining each other, and then according to the second modular grid of fragments adjoining each other, and the first and second modular grid are shifted relative to each other by a shift in at least one of two perpendicular to each other the other axes in the image plane of the digital copy, and registration of the classification data is carried out both for the fragments laid out on the first modular grid and for the fragments laid out on the second modular grid.

EFFECT: technical result is to provide a reliable identification of authorship of a painting.
