FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method involves melting in an electric furnace of cast iron of the specified composition, draining of a melt to a ladle, filling of heel of the melt with cover material, its exposure till formation of a protective cover, introduction to the melt of a solid modifying agent and filling of an introduction place with cover material. Melting of cast iron is performed in a melting pot of an induction furnace with current frequency of 50-2400 Hz at maintenance of cast iron melt level of not higher than level of an upper coil of the furnace inductor coil, and after reduction of the value of rated power supplied to the furnace inductor coil by 5-50% and formation of a convex meniscus on the cast iron melt surface the melt heel is filled with the cover material, exposed till formation of safety cover; a solid modifying agent is added to the melt and exposed during 2-6 minutes; with that, before the modifying agent is added to the melt, it is exposed in water and introduced to a melting pot of the induction furnace in the amount of 0.5-0.7% of the weight of the modified cast iron, and to the ladle - 0.3-0.8% of the weight of the modified cast iron.
EFFECT: invention allows increasing a coefficient of distribution of magnesium and cerium throughout volume of liquid cast iron contained in the pouring ladle, increasing time of action of modifying effect after a modifying agent is added to the melt.
