FIELD: physics, atomic power.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of executing the fuel cycle of a channel-type nuclear reactor. The disclosed method provides execution of programmed rearrangements of fuel assemblies in a reactor core, removing spent fuel assemblies and installing new fuel assemblies, moving control and safety system rods. Upon achieving reactor-average fuel assembly burn-up of about 1700 MWd/FA, in the peripheral part of the reactor core (2), bounded by a region of 0.8-1.0 times the radius of the reactor core, cells are formed from nine fuel assemblies with burn-up in the centre fuel assembly of 1700-3000 MWd/FA, with average burn-up of fuel assemblies in the cell without the centre fuel assembly of about 2400 MWd/FA. During further operation of the reactor, centre fuel assemblies of the cells (1) are replaced with fresh ones while maintaining energy release in the cells at the reactor-average level by moving control and safety system rods.
EFFECT: longer life cycle of the reactor, higher energy yield of the fuel assembly in the reactor, enabling use of depleted plutonium-239 and 241, low specific consumption of the fuel assembly.
