SUBSTANCE: distance to a given target is determined based on measurement of the response delay time at the output of a matched filter for a specifically generated (based on tonal signal response) composite signal, wherein the duration of said response is considerably shorter than the duration of the signal response of the tonal signal.

EFFECT: high accuracy of determining distance to a target.
