SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electronic devices. The device comprises at least one photodetector and a plurality of phototransmitters for emitting infrared light at different angles from the electronic device; emission of infrared light by each of the phototransmitters is controlled during each of a plurality of time periods during movement of an external object in a pattern, which is offset relative to a generally centre position with respect to a sensing assembly, and measured signals are generated, which are evaluated to identify a pattern of movement of the object and to detect a reference offset position.
EFFECT: high accuracy of determining the position of physical objects located outside mobile devices.
