FIELD: physics, navigation.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for use in vessel traffic control systems (VTCS) when an operator controls a vessel on complex channels. In the invention, the solution to the task of a VTCS operator rapidly obtaining reliable information on the position of a vessel on a channel is achieved by including, in the VTCS equipment, hydroacoustic navigation systems, external devices (receiving-transmitting devices) of which are located near hazardous areas of the channel, using information from said devices to determine the position of the vessel relative to the axis of the channel, coordinates of the geometric centre thereof, distance from the bow and stern to the boundaries of the channel (boundaries of prohibited areas) and behaviour of change of said parameters and displaying calculation results in digital form and in display form on the operator's display for use when making decisions when controlling movement of the vessel.
EFFECT: higher accuracy and rapid determination of motion parameters of vessels when passing through hazardous areas of a water body, including determination of the position of the vessel relative to the boundaries of the channel (boundaries of prohibited areas).
