FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: hydrocarbon material used is a gasoline fraction of hydrocracking with an initial boiling point of 35-40°C and a final boiling point of no higher than 180°C and content of paraffin hydrocarbons lower than C4 of not less than 2%, paraffin hydrocarbons C5-C10 of up to 50%, naphthene hydrocarbons C5-C10 of up to 35%, aromatic hydrocarbons C6-C9 of not more than 15%, including benzene of not more than 2%, and olefin hydrocarbons of not more than 1.0%; pyrolysis of the hydrocarbon material is carried out at 750-850°C for 0.5-3.5 s with the ratio of steam to the material in the range of 1:1 to 3:1.

EFFECT: use of the present invention enables to use previously unused material to produce ethylene.
