FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to manipulation of slabs (21, 2b) produced by continuous casting the surface of which are to be ground before rolling at rolling mill. Proposed device comprises reversing grinding table (12a, 12b) whereat the slab is displaced back and force to under grinding unit (I, II) of grinding machine arranged in grinding cabinet. After grinding of one surface, said grinding table is extended from grinding cabinet to lift the slab from said table and to feed it to turn-over device. Note here that slab (21, 2b) after turn-over is withdrawn from said turn-over device and placed by opposite unprocessed surface atop said table. Said table is pushed again in grinding cabin to processing of said surface. Method and device are simplified owing to that slab manipulator (9) equipped with rotary drive (14, 14a, 14b) for slab clamping and lifting grips the slab to feed it crosswise and to turn it over.
