FIELD: measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radiolocation of extended targets. The invention can be used in onboard radio altimeters. Signal radiation towards terrestrial surface, reception of the reflected signals on N periods of repetition, filtration of the accepted signal in the filter matched with modulation of the probing signal, finding on N periods of repetition of the envelope power of the reflected signal with the sampling step, corresponding to resolution of the probing signal, calculation of preliminary assessments of altitude, dispersion of the signal with noise and noise dispersion, formation of hypotheses on aircraft altitude, calculation for each hypothesis of the matrix hypothesis on altitude of mutual dispersions, determinant of the matrix hypothesis of mutual dispersions and the inverse matrix hypothesis of mutual dispersions, calculation of the functional of conformity of received signal to a hypothesis, finding a hypothesis corresponding to the maximum of function of conformity according to the delay of the reflected signal and altitude.

EFFECT: decrease of fluctuation error of measurement of altitude at the expense of the accounting of correlation communications in reception channels.
