FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to monitoring of a medium in reservoirs for storage, in particular, to the method and the device for detection of phase separation in reservoirs for storage. At least one float has density calibrated so that difference in density could be detected between surrounding fluid media. The float is held on the surface relative to a more dense lower layer of the fluid medium, such as fuel with separated phases or clean water, and remains submerged in a relatively less dense upper layer of the fluid medium, such as the mixture of benzene/ethanol. The detection device sends a signal, when the float rises or lowers above or below the pre-determined permissible level.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to detect a fluid medium, created as a result of phase separation, and to determine its height.
