FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: overflow protection system (20) for storage container (94) includes testing mechanism (200) configured to control the user at inlet end (80) of drain pipe (98), which can be used to check the correct operation of valve (34) without actual filling of reservoir. Testing mechanism enables the user to actuate valve (34) manually using probe (206), for example, by raising float (36) in order to simulate a complete storage tank. Testing mechanism can be located upstream of the valve in order to facilitate the testing operation without interference from the valve body. Mechanism can provide contactless functionalities, for example, by means of magnetic actuators (42, 44) on each side of drain pipe wall to exclude potential points of leakage in testing mechanism.
EFFECT: probe (206) for actuating the testing mechanism can have a shape which defines the desired angular position at the testing point in the drain pipe in order to provide alignment of the angular position of the magnetic actuators.
