FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electron-beam welding of ring butts and can be used in various branches of machine and instrument building. This process comprises alignment of electron beam with ring joint butt. Mutual location of the beam and ring joint butt is defined by check points. For this, said butt is scanned by ellipsoid-like scan with larger diagonal 2a≈2.2884R, smaller diagonal 2b≈1.7988R, where a is ellipsoid larger axis, b is smaller axis, R is ring joint butt radius. Four check points of scan crossing with said butt are defined whereat sequential time intervals there between are equal. In compliance with second version, said butt is scanned with sweep shaped to regular polyhedron. The number of check points equals twofold number of polyhedron ribs. Sizes of polyhedron (n - number of sides, R1 - radius of circle circumscribed around polyhedron, R2 is radius of circle inscribed in polyhedron) are set so that all points of intersection of polyhedron ribs with ring butt makes equal circular arc angles on butt circle.
EFFECT: precise alignment of beam spin axis with ring butt axis, higher quality of welding.
