FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to collecting magnetic particles captured by a magnetic plug, designed to hold magnetic particles by a magnet, said particles being formed from wearing of components, e.g., rotating components located in an equipment housing or in an aircraft engine. An apparatus for collecting magnetic particles captured by a magnetic plug, which includes a magnetic plug having a magnetic rod designed to hold magnetic particles captured by a liquid in which said magnetic plug is immersed, a cover having a nonmagnetic pipe, having a near end portion with a hole configured to allow the magnetic rod to enter the pipe, a closed far end portion and means configured to be held between the cover and the magnetic rod after the magnetic rod enters the pipe. The pipe is configured to close the magnetic rod after the magnetic rod enters said pipe. The apparatus also includes retrieval means, having a hole, said means being configured to allow the pipe to enter the retrieval means, configured to close said pipe once it enters said retrieval to form a closed retrieval cavity, and receive particles captured by said plug once the magnetic rod is retrieved from the pipe. The apparatus additionally includes means capable of being held between the retrieval means and the pipe once the pipe enters the retrieval means and is configured to send the particles for analysis. The disclosed device implements a method of collecting magnetic particles captured by a magnetic plug, the method comprising steps of: placing the cover on the magnetic rod of the magnetic plug by inserting the magnetic rod into the pipe; placing the magnetic plug fitted with the cover and providing operation of the engine; retrieving the magnetic plug from the engine; mounting the retrieval means on the cover; retrieving the apparatus by withdrawing the magnetic rod from the pipe.
EFFECT: high efficiency of collecting particles held on a magnetic plug.
