FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method for obtaining multi-layer coating for cutting tool includes vacuum-plasma application of the multi-layer coating, at that lower layer of nitride of titanium, silicone and chrome is applied at wt %: titanium 87.1-90.5, silicone 1.0-1.4, chromium 8.5-11.5, and top layer of zirconium nitride. Coating layers are applied by three cathodes arranged in the same horizontal plane, where first cathode is composed of titanium and silicone, second cathode is made of chrome and opposed to the first cathode, and third cathode is made of titanium and chrome and positioned between first and second cathodes. The lower layer is applied using the first and third cathodes, and upper layer - by second cathode.
EFFECT: improved cutting ability.
