FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: applying multi-layer coating. First, a lower layer of titanium nitride is applied. Then, an intermediate layer of nitride of the titanium compound and chromium is applied at a ratio, wt %: titanium 82.75-87.25, chromium 12.75-17.25. Then, the upper layer of the nitride of the titanium, chromium and silicon compound is deposited at a ratio, wt %: titanium 87.1-90.5, chromium 8.5-11.5, silicon 1.0-1.4. Coating plies are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. The first cathode is made of composite of titanium and chromium, the second is made of titanium and silicon alloy and is placed opposite the first, and the third is made of titanium and placed between them. The lower layer is applied using a third cathode, the intermediate layer using first and third cathodes, and the top layer using all three cathodes.
EFFECT: higher cutting tool efficiency.
