FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of extracting a solvent from decarbonised spent gas in the water flushing section of an absorption column; the decarbonised spent gas must have carbon dioxide absorbed and removable through vapour-liquid contact with a solvent which absorbs carbon dioxide, which contains a solvent, in the absorption column. The method includes: bringing a substantially solvent free water stream into counterflow contact with decarbonised spent gas in the emission control section of the absorption column to extract the solvent from the decarbonised spent gas to form a solvent containing flush water and the recovered solvent containing spent gas; bringing the cooled flush water into counterflow contact with the recovered solvent containing spent gas in the spent gas cooling section of the absorption column to cool the recovered solvent containing spent gas, thereby forming cooled spent gas and the used flush water. The invention also relates to a system.
EFFECT: invention provides equilibrium of the recovered solvent.
