FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to compositions for increasing viscosity of aqueous media. The composition contains a mixture of at least one cationic or cationisable polymer and at least one anionic or anionisable polymer. The composition has a zeta potential at 25°C in the range of 14 to 60 mV or from -0.5 to -100 mV, or is a precursor which can be converted at temperature of 100 to 250°C into a composition having a zeta potential at 25°C of 14 to 60 mV or from -0.5 to -100 mV. The compositions are useful for hydraulic fracturing, enhanced oil recovery, subterranean acidisation, personal hygiene as well as home and industrial cleaners.
EFFECT: resistance of the composition to high salt concentrations, wherein the interaction of both polymers at very high temperatures takes place such that the system exhibits high viscosity at high temperatures.
