FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing liquid-phase aromatic amines by hydrogenating corresponding aromatic compounds. A method of producing toluylene diamines of formula
wherein R1 denotes NH2 and R2 denotes methyl, is carried out by hydrogenating dinitrotoluene of formula
,
wherein R2 denotes methyl and R3 denotes NO2, in the presence of a liquid-phase catalyst in at least two series-connected reaction zones located in one reactor or multiple reactors, wherein at least one reaction zone is operated isothermally and at least a reaction zone connected thereafter is operated adiabatically. According to the preferred implementation of the invention, adiabatic temperature drop is used to control the reaction.
EFFECT: method reduces residual content of nitroaromatic compounds in the obtained mixture and provides simple and reliable control of the reaction.
