FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of hydrogenating unsaturated fatty acids to obtain saturated fatty acids, wherein said method includes hydrogenating the unsaturated fatty acid in the presence of hydrogen and a supported nickel catalyst, said supported nickel catalyst having an oxide support, 5-80 wt % nickel, calculated as nickel metal on the weight of the catalyst, and 0.1-10 wt % of a manganese promoter, calculated as MnO2 on the weight of the catalyst.
EFFECT: use of the manganese promoter improves activity of fatty acid hydrogenation catalysts having different supports and obtained at different deposition temperatures.
