FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: eight space-frequency lattices with sinusoidal light distribution are presented. Each lattice opens with an increasing contrast. Once the lattice reveals itself, and the patient observes it, he/she presses a button to set a signal. This actuates a contrast level processing unit, and a point is plotted. The next lattice is initiated simultaneously by feedback. The procedure is performed until all the eight lattices have been presented, for the right and left eye separately. Once the procedure is terminated, the diagrams are presented; an abscissa axis thereof reflects lattice numbers and brain areas, whereas an ordinate axis shows a percentage range of the lattice contrast level. If observing desensitisation within the high-frequency range, retinal-geniculate brain areas are supposed to dysfunction. Thalamostriate areas from the retina, lateral geniculate body of the thalamic nucleus to occipital and parietotemporal cortical areas are considered involved if observing desensitisation within the medium-frequency range. Impaired parietotemporal cortical brain areas are diagnosed by desensitisation within the low-frequency range.
EFFECT: method enables detecting and localising the deteriorated functional health of various brain areas, that is ensured by presenting sinusoidal lattices with an increasing contrast and evaluating the desensitisation within the high-, medium-, and low-frequency ranges.
