SUBSTANCE: application: in the field of power engineering. According to the method since short-circuit current surge the countdown time is started for actuation of the main circuit breaker (MCB) protection, at that moment of its disappearance is monitored, and if at moment of the countdown period ending fault current disappears then conclusion is made on emergency shutdown of MCB; since the moment of short-circuit current disappearance the countdown time is started for automatic reclosure of the MCB, at that appearance of operating current surge is monitored, and if at the moment of countdown period ending it appears then conclusion is made on successful reclosure of the MCB; since appearance of operating current surge the countdown time is started for actuation of protection with step acceleration, at that disappearance of operating current is monitored, and if at the moment of countdown period ending it disappears then conclusion is made on false tripping of the MCB in power transmission line.

EFFECT: expanding functionality by receipt of data on emergency shutdown, successful reclosure and subsequent false tripping of the main circuit breaker in power transmission line.
