SUBSTANCE: invention relates to versions of a method of producing CX-CY-olefins, where X is at least 14 and Y is greater than X but less than or equal to 36. One of the versions of the method includes steps of: reacting material containing normal C5- and C6-olefins in dimerisation or oligomerisation conditions to form a dimerisation or oligomerisation product; wherein content of C5- and C6-olefins in the material is at least 1 wt %; dividing the dimerisation or oligomerisation product into a stream containing unreacted C5- and C6-paraffins, a stream containing C10-CX-1-olefins and a stream containing CX-CY-olefins; and reacting at least a portion of the stream containing C10-CX-1-olefins in chain growth conditions to form a stream containing CX-CY-olefins, wherein the chain growth conditions include dimerisation and oligomerisation.
EFFECT: invention enables to convert C5- and C6-hydrocarbons into C14+-olefins with conversion considerably greater than 30 wt %.
