SUBSTANCE: invention relates to linkage of corresponding patient information records. A plurality of entities have respective patient databases containing patient information records. Each entity has associated therewith a patient identification algorithm for matching corresponding patient information records of the same patient at different entities. A linking subsystem maintains a set of links of a first entity of the plurality of entities. The linking subsystem is arranged for linking patient information records of the first entity with corresponding patient information records of the other entities. A link is established when a given patient information record of the first entity matches a corresponding patient information record of another entity based on the patient identification algorithm of the first entity. The links provide an association between locally-assigned patient identifiers of the same patient at different entities.
