The device comprises: a processor connected to memory, the processor being configured to perform: a scanning function; a setting function for setting the address of a file server on a network as a transmission recipient for sending a file corresponding to an original image; a function for receiving authentication information to be used to authenticate the file server; a function for sending a file to the file server by said transmission recipient if authentication of the file server is successful based on authentication information; a function for registering the transmission recipient set by said setting function, and authentication information; and a function for completing registration of the authentication information, if the authentication information was input when logging into a data communication device, and completing registration of the authentication information if the authentication information was input when specifying said recipient.
