SUBSTANCE: invention relates to transmission of terminal data, such as terminal characteristics, in wireless communication networks. As part of establishing a communication session, a message is transmitted to a source device, the message identifying a list of supported input categories, which identifies user input data formats supported by a receiving device, and a plurality of lists of supported types. Each of the supported input categories from the list of supported input categories has an associated list of supported types. As part of a communication session, the source device can transmit audio and video data to a receiving device, which can transmit the received user input to the source device. In this manner, a user of the receiving device can control the source device and control the content being transmitted from the source device to the receiving device.

EFFECT: matching characteristics between a wireless receiving device and a wireless source device.
