SUBSTANCE: invention represents a method for determining a depth of lipid cores of atherosclerotic plaques by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy consisting in preparing sections of atherosclerotic segment of the blood flow, recording infrared transmission spectra of the prepared sections, identifying characteristic absorption peaks; the method is described by finding a section having a maximum absorption within 1720-1760 cm-1 respective to the C=O bond stretch of cholesterol esters, which is a depth of a lipid core.

EFFECT: analysing the qualitative composition of atherosclerotic plaques and the depth of lipid cores.
