FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method for obtaining chrome (III) oxide, which includes the following stages: a) interaction of alkali metal chromate or alkali metal bichromate with gaseous ammonia, in particular, at temperature from 200 to 800°C, b) hydrolysis of reaction product, obtained at stage a), with pH-value of water for hydrolysis before hydrolysis or alkaline mother liquor being set equal from 4 to 11, with reduction by means of acid, c) separation of hydrolysis product, precipitated at stage b), d) drying product, obtained at stage c), and e) calcinations of hydrolysis product, obtained at stage d), at temperature from 700 to 1400°C.
EFFECT: obtained chrome (III) oxide, which can be applied for metallurgical purposes, contains very low quantities of sulphur and alkali metals.
