SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a switching device (1) with at least a first electrical input (2) of the switching device, as well as at least a first electrical output (3) of the switching device and at least a second electrical output (4) of the switching device, where in a first operating state of the switching device the first input (2) of the switching device is circuit-connected to the first output (3) of the switching device, and in a second operating state of the switching device the first input (2) of the switching device is circuit-connected to the second output (4) of the switching device, wherein in order to achieve the technical result - facilitating uninterrupted monitoring of the operation of the protective disconnection device - the switching device (1) is designed to perform seamless transition from the first operating state to the second operating state and/or from the second operating state to the first operating state.
