SUBSTANCE: invention is referred to detection of faults in cables. Essence of the invention: fault detection system comprises the first ammeter to measure the second phase current, the second ammeter to measure the second phase current, the third ammeter to measure the third phase current, the first valuator to compute negative-sequence current out of the first phase current, the second phase current and the third phase current, and the first detection unit to detect changes in negative-sequence current. Besides, the respective method and machine-processable medium are described.
EFFECT: potential detection of faults in cables intended for direct electric heating of underwater pipelines.
