SUBSTANCE: invention relates to geophysics and can be used in the search for and exploitation of mineral deposits. According to the present disclosure, determining the position of a geologic horizon in a subterranean formation includes receiving seismic data representing the interaction of the geologic horizon with the propagation of a seismic wave; identifying the seismic pulse of a source representing part of the seismic wave incident on the boundary of the geologic horizon; creating a pattern of the geologic horizon from the geologic horizon, which includes primary and secondary reflecting interfaces associated with reflectivity, based on properties of the material of the geologic horizon; further, forming a pattern of the manifestation of the seismic pulse by superimposing the seismic pulse of the source on the pattern of the geologic horizon using a mathematical transvection operation for simulating interference of seismic waves, caused by the primary and secondary reflecting interfaces; identifying the extremum of seismic data and determining, based on the extremum, the position of the geologic horizon in the subterranean formation using the pattern of the manifestation of the seismic pulse.
EFFECT: high accuracy and reliability of obtained data.
