FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of estimating ocean surface temperature from satellite microwave radiometer measurements by obtaining brightness temperature (Tb) values via radiometric channels and calculating ocean surface temperature (Ts) using a relationship which takes into account the brightness temperature value and coefficients of a tuned Neural Network. The method employs four radiometric channels having the following frequencies and polarisation modes: υ1=6.9 GHz horizontal polarisation, υ2=6.9 GHz vertical polarisation, υ3=10.65 GHz horizontal polarisation and υ4=10.65 GHz vertical polarisation. Attenuation of radiation by a precipitation layer of up to 30 mm/h is simulated, which enables to obtain an estimate of the ocean surface temperature in a wide range of states of the ocean and the atmosphere for the entire range of ocean temperatures in conditions which include presence of thick clouds and precipitation of up to 30 mm/h.
EFFECT: high accuracy and reliability of obtained data.
