FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: surface plastic deformation is performed until obtaining of the residual imprint, diameter of the residual imprint on the part surface is measured, and thickness of the surface layer reinforced by shot blasting is calculated. Prior to the shot blasting the initial hardness of the part material is determined as per Brinell method, density of shot material is determined, and shot speed at the moment of impact is calculated based on them the thickness of the surface layer reinforced by the shot blasting is determined by measurement of the ball (shot) diameter D, material density ρ, and balls speed at the impact moment V, as well as static hardness of the treated surface HB. Thickness of the cold-worked surface layer is determined using the equation.

EFFECT: reduced time of determination of the thickness of the cold-worked layer due to reduced number of measured parameters.
