FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method for processing titanium-containing material includes leaching of milled material with sulphuric acid with heating with obtaining suspension. Then suspension is filtered and solid sediment is separated from sulphuric acid leaching solution, which contains titanium and iron compounds. Extraction processing of leaching solution, separation of organic and water phases, water re-extraction, thermal hydrolysis with formation of titanium hydroxide are carried out. Titanium hydroxide is separated and burned with obtaining titanium dioxide. Leaching of titanium-containing material is realised with sulphuric acid with concentration 600-800 g/l. Extraction processing of sulphuric acid leaching solution is carried out with conversion of 55-65 wt % of sulphuric acid into organic phase, and compounds of titanium, iron and residual quantity of sulphuric acid - in water phase. Re-extraction is carried out with obtaining sulphuric acid solution. Water phase is processed by constant electric current with current density 0.02-0.10 A/cm2 until content of Ti2O3 not higher than 5 g/l is achieved and subjected to thermal hydrolysis. As titanium-containing material sphene, perovskite, ilmenite concentrates with particles size not larger than 40 mcm are applied.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase degree of titanium extraction from titanium-containing material into free titanium dioxide, reduce volume of material flows, and increase ecological safety.
