FIELD: atomic physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a fuel rod used in a nuclear reactor. The disclosed fuel rod has an interlayer (3) between a cladding (1) and a stack of pellets (5) in the fuel rod. The interlayer joint is made of neutron-permeable material in the form of a structure with high heat-conductivity and open pores. The interlayer joint is capable of compression deformation on its thickness and is situated between the cladding and the stack of fuel pellets at least on the height of the stack. The present group of inventions also includes methods of making a fuel rod with an interlayer joint, particularly with the filling of the open pores of the interlayer joint and spaces (2) and (4) between the cladding, pellets and fixing members of the rod with an inert gas, preferably helium.
EFFECT: providing an optimum trade-off between the required compressibility and high heat conductivity of the interlayer joint, coupled with effective insulation from possible fuel debris.
