FIELD: nuclear equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a nuclear reactor fuel element. Ratio of the area of divisible nuclear fuel in the cross section of the tubular fuel element perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, and the total volume of the inner volume in the cross-section of the tubular fuel element varies with the position along the longitudinal axis. Ratio can vary with position along longitudinal axis between minimum of 0.30 and maximum of 1.0. Increasing the ratio above and below the peak burnup point associated with conventional systems, reduces peak burnup and smooths and shifts the burnup distribution, which is preferably Gaussian. Longitudinal variation can be implemented in fuel assemblies using fuel elements, such as tablets, rods or rings, or fuel in form of metal sponge.
EFFECT: technical result is higher efficiency of fuel use.
