FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: control rod, having a bottom tip made from absorbent material, which is essentially less susceptible to swelling under the effect of radiation exposure than a second absorbent material which lies above the bottom tip of absorbent material. The bottom tip of absorbent material is essentially less reactive than the second absorbent material lying from the bottom end plug of the control rod to a height a little higher than the damper of the guide ring of the channel of the fuel assembly of the nuclear reactor when the control rod is completely immersed into the guide ring of the channel.
EFFECT: reduced swelling and heating of the material which absorbs neutrons in the damper zone of guide rings of the fuel assembly.
