FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a magnetic resonance imaging system (1) comprising: a main magnet (2) for generating a uniform, steady magnetic field within an investigated volume, at least one radio-frequency antenna (9) for transmitting radio-frequency pulses to the investigated volume for magnetic resonance spin excitation, a gradient coil unit comprising gradient coils (4, 5, 6) for generating gradient magnetic fields in the investigated volume (100), a radio-frequency shield (104) situated between said radio-frequency antenna (9) and said gradient coils (4, 5, 6). Said radio-frequency shield (104) contains a shielding material adapted for suppressing Eddy currents induced in the shield by said gradient magnetic fields and for screening radio-frequency fields towards the gradient coils (4, 5, 6), said radio-frequency fields being generated by the radio-frequency antenna (9). The radio-frequency shield comprises a conductive coating (104, 110) as shielding material.
EFFECT: protection using radio-frequency shields for shielding gradient coils from radio-frequency fields and effective suppression of Eddy currents.
