FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: two-stage cryogenic cooling device (42) uses a first-stage cooling device (52) to cool a working gas (e.g. helium, hydrogen, etc) to about 25 K. The working gas moves through a pipe system due to convection until temperature of the magnet (20) is about 25 K. Once the magnet (20) reaches 25 K, the flow of the gas stops and a second-stage cooling device (54) cools the magnet (20) further to about 4 K.
EFFECT: use of the invention enables to maximise heat insulation between the first stage of the cryogenic cooling device and the magnet, and the use of a passive switching procedure between cooling stages does not require the use of mechanical or movable parts.
