FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method includes feeding a cationic surfactant into at least part of the surface of a membrane and inner part of a membrane by incubating the membrane in an aqueous or aqueous salt solution containing a cationic surfactant or a mixture of cationic surfactants. A vanadium redox battery (versions) is also disclosed.
EFFECT: invention significantly reduces permeability of cation-exchange membranes with respect to vanadium ions, particularly Nafion, in order to use modified membranes in vanadium redox batteries.
