SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to determine characteristics of a radio-frequency (RF) transmitting circuit of a magnetic resonance imaging scanner (1). The method comprises determining the evolution of the phase of a first magnetic resonance signal of a local RF transmitting field generated by magnetic resonance excitation of a first probe using a first magnetic resonance coil, by measuring RF response of the first probe after said excitation, wherein measurement is carried out using the first magnetic resonance coil; determining the evolution of the phase of a second magnetic resonance signal of the local RF transmitting field, generated by magnetic resonance excitation of a second probe using an external magnetic resonance coil (9; 11; 12; 13), by measuring RF response of the second probe after said excitation, wherein measurement is carried out using the second magnetic resonance coil; enabling determination of characteristics of the phase error of the RF transmitting circuit by calculating phase shift between the evolution of the phase of the first magnetic resonance signal and the evolution of the phase of the second magnetic resonance signal.
EFFECT: enabling determination of characteristics of a RF circuit in real time.
