FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: claimed process cutting the rails to length, weighing produced rail billet and comparing it with the weight of running meter required for production of rolled section preset cross-section. In case the running meter weight is insufficient, it is increased by one-side or two-side thermal buildup over the rail billet web with the uniform depth of built-up metal over the entire length of rail billet. Web depth is increased by 1.5-56 mm while rail billet heated to 950-1150 degrees Centigrade is rolled in 10-17 passes at roughing and finishing sets of stands. Buildup and rolling parameters are specified by mathematical relationships. Said buildup is performed by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis.
EFFECT: higher quality and precision of produced sections.
