SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a GSM communication module, which enables the application that controls it to specify a set of required criteria relating to the characteristics of the packet switching service offered by the cell. Said set of criteria can be taken into account by said module at various levels. The module can take said criteria into account in the initial method for selecting a cell for connecting thereto. The module can also take said criteria into account in the method for reselecting a new cell and in the method of monitoring neighbouring cells.
EFFECT: avoiding connection with a cell for which a packet switching service is unavailable, including all characteristics required for said application, especially if such a cell is available around the communication module.
